Global Installed Capacity Of Solar Thermal Power Generation Increased To 5133MW By The End Of 2017
Mar 13, 2018

In 2017, the global installed capacity of solar thermal power stations increased slightly, due to a number of projects under construction that failed to be put into operation in 2017, including the NOOR2&3 project in Morocco, Israel’s Ashalim1&2 power plant, and several projects under construction in South Africa, China and other markets, and by 2018 Only officially put into operation, it is expected that the global installed capacity of solar thermal power generation will show explosive growth in 2018.

The CSP market in South Africa once again led the new installed capacity in the past year. On August 16, 2017, it launched the XinaSolarOne trough type CSP project, adding 100MW of installed capacity to the country.

XinaSolarOne is the fourth commercialized CSP station in South Africa, together with the 50MW KhiSolarOne tower-type solar thermal power station put into operation on February 5, 2016, and the 100MW KaXuSolarOne installed on-line on March 2, 2015. The trough-type solar thermal power plant, which was formally put into operation in December 2015, installed a 50MW Bokpoort trough-type solar thermal power station. By the end of 2017, the total installed capacity of solar thermal power generation in South Africa had increased to 300.56 MWe.
